Book is xxxi + 329 pp. A translation from Spanish of Borges, "Fragmento," in this bilingual collection of Borges' poems from several previous books, with English versions facing the Spanish originals, provided by a dozen different translators. The main contents are preceded by a Foreword by Borges (xv-xvi) and an Introduction by di Giovanni (xvii-xxviii). The volume contains translations of most other poems written by Borges around the same time that engage with Old English literature or early English history.
"Fragment" begins:
A sword.
An iron sword hammered out in the cold of dawn,
A sword carved with runes
That no one will overlook, that no one will interpret in full. (159)
And ends:
A sword to fit the hand
That will gain a kingdom and lose a kingdom,
A sword to fit the hand
That will bring down the forest of spears.
A sword to fit the hand of Beowulf. (159)
