  • Descriptive Notes

Book is vi + 370 pp. This is the first volume of a 4-volume work published 1857-64, meant to present editions of all Old English poems: vol. 1, containing texts, 1857; vol. 2, containing the remaining texts, 1858; vol. 3, the first part of the glossary, 1861; and vol. 4, completing the glossary, 1864. Grein's edition of Beowulf is in vol. 1, pp. 255-341. No introductory material or comment is provided other than brief notes on manuscripts and prior editions (359-68, Beowulf at 356-67). The volume concludes with "Nachträgliche Verbesserungen" ("later improvements," 368-69, with those for Beowulf on 369) and errata (370).
