Most of the advertisements have been removed from the original published form, as have the Gummere translation that had followed the graphic story in each of the four original issues and the essays by Jason Tondro that had been included in issues 3 and 4. Newly included in the single-volume form is an "Art Gallery" on pp. 91-103, with artwork by Rodriguez and Nelson (the only art of Nelson's to appear is in this section).
The story begins with a series of overhead views of a fortified settlement, approaching to isolate the mead hall. The only textual elements on this page are small scene-setting notations:
