    Book is 208 pp., color illus. Publication at its original size of a drawing made with black ink in July 1928 of the monster mere in Beowulf, with handwritten caption "wudu wyrtū fæst," depicting a pool of black water into which a stream cascades from bluffs with blasted trees. The title given here is Hammond and Scull's printed caption to the image (identical to the caption given to another picture on the facing page; bracketed roman numeral assigned within the database entry to distinguish them).
