    Descriptive Notes

Duration 19:40. Side A, track 4 of an LP record (33 1/3 RPM). The Beowulf reading consists of ll. 2724-3182.

The record contains on side I (=A) Dunn's recordings of Cædmon's Hymn, part of The Battle of Maldon, and part of The Seafarer, followed by part of Beowulf, all in Old English; then on side II (=B), his recordings of portions of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and Chaucer's Wife of Bath's Tale, all in Middle English. An accompanying 12-page stapled booklet  includes the Old and Middle English texts as read by Dunn followed by translations which are not part of the recording. For Beowulf, the translation provided is the corresponding segment of Kennedy 1940.

    Notes on Prior Documentation

MO2 cites from a later cassette reissue and does not mention the booklet containing the Kennedy translation, which may or may not have accompanied it in that form.
